Getting colder and colder now... time to be sure any 'tenders' are brought in and placed in sunny windows, to start your 'indoor' bulbs and getting the holiday decorations in place... then to sit by the fire with a hot cup of chocolate and lovingly examine seed catalogues... So much color this December! And even the iris are blooming. If you'd like some, ask Sterling.

"When I am overwhelmed and stressed
and simply unable to think,
I go out and work in my garden,
it’s cheaper than a shrink. "(Unknown)

I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December
A magical thing
And sweet to remember.

'We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,'
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.
Oliver Herford, I Heard a Bird Sing

Last night, there came a frost, which has done great damage to my garden.... It is sad that Nature will play such tricks on us poor mortals, inviting us with sunny smiles to confide in her, and then, when we are entirely within her power, striking us to the heart.  ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, The American Notebooks

Pull your geraniums up before the first hard freeze. Shake off the dirt. Place upside down (roots up) in a brown paper bag and hang in your basement or garage. Check in the spring for new growth and give a light spritz of water. When the last frost has passed, trim off the brown bits and plant in the ground or in pots.
