Program: “Blue Birds” By Mary Jane Shearer, of the North American Bluebird Society
Of winter's lifeless world each tree
Now seems a perfect part;
Yet each one holds summer's secret
Deep down within its heart.

IN THE GARDEN
Here’s a birdhouse tip from Walter Reeves:
Keep wasps from building their nests in your birdhouses by painting petroleum jelly on the inside roof of the birdhouse. Also, once all the baby birds fledge, sprinkle the birdhouse with sulphur to eliminate parasites that could infect the next brood. Sulphur can be found at any home or hardware store.
For some more really excellent gardening tips, please check out "Gail the Gardener" column on the Redbud website. Go to www.RedbudDistrict.com and click on Education, then Gail the Gardener. Also Renee Hopf has a very nice Birds and Bees page. Lots of good info on this site.

Someone painted pictures on my
Windowpane last night --
Willow trees with trailing boughs
And flowers, frosty white,
And lovely crystal butterflies;
But when the morning sun
Touched them with its golden beams,
They vanished one by one.

The sun came out, And the snowman cried.
His tears ran down on every side.
His tears ran down, Till the spot was cleared.
He cried so hard, That he disappeared.

MEMBERSHIP NEWS
Friday, January 4, is our workday at the Atrium:
Meet at Margo’s at 9:30 a.m. to shop for pansies and plant them at the Atrium. At that time, we will also need to cut down all the scraggly-looking canna lillies and possibly do some minor clean up.
Remember, the January meeting is important.
We will elect new officers for the coming fiscal year, and we will finalize plans for the card party.
Congratulations to Margo. The Atlanta Audubon Society has checked out her yard and has designated it a “Wildlife Sanctuary”. A sign is posted there.
The holiday luncheon was enjoyed by all and the food was delicious. Thanks Maria, for opening your house to all our members. Thanks also to those who brought clothing and toiletries for the women in a shelter home.
Our workday at the Donaldson-Chesnut garden is January 24, Thursday, at 10:00 a.m.
