This month we will be installing our new officers
and planning for the new garden year.
Please join us in the upcoming months.

Installation of Officers and Luncheon Maggiano’s at Perimeter Mall
Botanists say that trees need the powerful March winds to flex their trunks and main branches, so the sap is drawn up to nourish the budding leaves. Perhaps we need the gales of life in the same way, though we dislike enduring them.

IN THE GARDEN
Here are some good organic fertilizers:
Fish Emulsion and Seaweed give plants plenty of nitrogen to build healthy foliage and overall vigor.
Seaweed especially helps plants fight off bacteria, fungi and insects and helps plants develop resistance to drought, disease and frost. It appears to give vegetables a longer shelf life.
Cottonseed Meal is great for acid loving plants, like camellias, hydrangeas and boxwoods, feeding them and correcting the pH balance in the soil.
Prepare your beds with Bone Meal to deliver essential phosphorous and nitrogen to the roots of bulbs and flowering plants. Phosphorous and calcium improves longevity and size to flowers.
For some more really excellent gardening tips, please check out "Gail the Gardener" column on the Redbud website. Go to www.RedbudDistrict.com and click on Education, then Gail the Gardener. Also Renee Hopf has a very nice Birds and Bees page. Lots of good info on this site.

"I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze."
William Wordsworth, Daffodils
MEMBERSHIP NEWS The Daffodil Show on March 15-16 will be our club trip. Sterling will have a sign up sheet at Maggiano's so please let her know on which day you prefer to go. Majority rule for Saturday or Sunday field trip.
The Club honored Carleen, a past president and a long-time member, by awarding her with a lifetime membership in the DeKalb Federation of Garden Clubs.
Also, the daffodils we planted at the Donaldson-Chesnut house should be popping up. We will take a look on March 19 and check out what needs to be done.
Every spring is the only spring - a perpetual astonishment.

We need spring. We need it desperately and, usually, we need it before God is willing to give it to us.
