FLOWER OF THE MONTH:

CHRYSANTHEMUM

This is the official flower of the month. Hardy chrysanthemums have a long, colorful
show which they put on in late summer and fall and they have hundreds of varieties. The gardener can have blooms from mid-August to heavy frost by choosing different varieties. Division every spring is recommended to keep them flowering well. Mums prefer full sun in moist but not soggy soil, and are heavy feeders.
Pinching the tall varieties in June (and as late as early August) encourages side branching.

COMMUNITY ON MY MIND

COMM is sponsored by Garden Club of Georgia to promote civic improvement.
Matching funds of up to $200 are available for any project which benefits or conserves in a setting that benefits all the citizens of that community. Examples that qualify are: clean up and/or landscaping at a public building, public cemetery, public park, public school, or domestic violence shelter. The garden club is required to get a third party to match its donation to qualify for COMM matching funds.
