A light rain cooled the air, bringing out the colors of the flowers and the old tomb carvings. Many of these historic tombs date back before the Great War of Aggression. There are some magnificent angels and marble memorials with very thought provoking inscriptions. Confederate and Union soldiers are also buried here. We had a lovely and knowledgeable tour guide who was able to point out the many historic figures interred in Oakland as well as the history of early Atlanta. Margaret Mitchell is buried in a plot covered with dozens of pink roses. After the tour, we had a wonderful lunch at Six Feet Under! |
