Information about interesting garden implements and plants .

Some pests are really beautiful... this tobacco hornworm was found happily munching a penstemon. He seems a proud little beastie.

The Hoe-Matic

I bought this at Home Depot and liked it so much I went back and bought a second one. It will break up red clay clods and mix in soil improvements. It is like an axe with the blade turned sideways.

Soil Scoop

Used like a trowel, but it will also bring up extra dirt that a trowel can't. It is a big spoon with serrated edges, Very strong steel it can even cut through small roots and heavy red clay.

Weed Fork

Looks like a BBQ fork but notice the deep bend in it. Slip the tines over the base of the weed and lever out the roots. This works very well with the little liriope plants you find popping up in the grass or flower beds.
