This time of year is a difficult time to work in the garden. It's dry and it's HOT. Few of us like winter's chill breath, but I think all of us welcome the coming coolness of autumn. It's a chance to get out and work in the garden, clear up from this year and dream about how next year it will all be perfect. If you can get out early in the morning, you may find some interesting creatures watching you.

Sedums are attracting bees of all kinds now

Toad Lilies are welcome in the dog-days of summer

Some hydrangeas are still blooming

"A garden is a love song, a duet between a human being and Mother Nature."
Jeff Cox, American garden writer

The mantis is a difficult creature to see. It can remain perfectly motionless and it blends with its surroundings so well... The body of this one is only about 1" long

A swamp mallow from Juanita's seed generosity...
