I Do Not Care for Roses, but I Have a Lot of Them in My Garden by Chris Woods
Chris is a consulting rosarian, a strong contender in the horticulture and arrangements contests at local, regional and national rose shows and a very lazy gardener. He has been growing great roses for about 50 years, but does not like pruning, spraying, fertilizing, watering, etc. So how? Because roses are far easier than most flowering shrubs to grow, if you know how.

Member Garden Tour
A tour of some members' gardens begins the day. How interesting and rewarding to see the attention and care someone has given to special places? Flowers, shade plants, water features, yard art, bird attractions, miniatures and giants! Each garden is as unique as it's devoted caretaker. And then, the plant swap. This is a time to enjoy sharing one's bounty and also to admire and appreciate what others have brought. At the final garden, refreshments will be offered. It is a delightful day and a very popular event among our members.

All Things Hydrangeas
Jennifer is a horticulturist who specializes in small scale design work, garden writing and garden coaching. She has been a board member of the American Hydrangea Society for several years and is the current newsletter editor. Previously, she worked at the Atlanta Botanical Garden and the Atlanta History Museum as a horticulturist. She has also worked as a private estate gardener. She is a certified plant nut and possible plant hoarder. Hydrangeas are among her many favorites! She gardens at home in Dunwoody, Georgia (7B) with her husband, three daughters, dog, cat and small flock of chickens. Her presentation took a look into some of the other species of the genus Hydrangea, tips on how to plant and care for your Hydrangeas and ideas for companion planting with these versatile shrubs.

Hands on Flower Making
The Dunwoody Garden Club Valentine’s Service project is complete! We made about 50 arrangements and donated them to residents of Phoenix of Dunwoody. Thanks to all who donated cups, flowers, money, Oasis and their time!

Wildlife in Winter by Rose Guerra
Rose is a Naturalist/Environmental educator. She leads environmental education programs around Atlanta. Rose currently contracts with several environmental organizations, including Atlanta Audubon Society, Dunwoody Nature Center, Blue Heron Nature Preserve, City of Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks and Chattahoochee Nature Center. Rose is a New Orleans native who moved to the Atlanta area in 1988 with a freshly-minted computer science degree, but her true passion has always been nature and wildlife. Rose’s wildlife/education experience includes animal rehabilitation, performing in Zoo Atlanta’s free-flighted bird show, and leading many bird walks, field trips, canoe trips, scout programs, and lectures. How do tiny birds survive an ice storm? Do any local animals hibernate? What happens to our butterflies and other insects? How can you make your yard a winter haven? We learned the answers to these questions along with some of the amazing adaptations that allow our local wildlife to survive our Georgia winters plus so much more.

State of the Chattahoochee River
Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, Jason Ulseth, is a Georgia native who grew up fishing and boating on the Chattahoochee River. During his childhood, he developed a love and passion for the river and our natural environment. In further pursuit of this passion, he attended the University of Georgia and earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health in 2003. He then went on to work for nearly 5 years for the Georgia Environmental Protection Division and Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission. Jason discussed the work of a Riverkeeper and current issues facing the Chattahoochee including Water Wars, water pollution and more.

Native Plants
The Gardens of the Blue Ridge is a family owned business operating as North Carolina’s oldest licensed nursery since 1892. The nursery remains in the family today with Robyn Fletcher, great grandson of the founder. Their Christmas tradition is providing Christmas garlands, arrangements, and bundles of favorite greenery, as well as greenery for weddings throughout the year. Robyn has worked for the business for 30 years. His PowerPoint presentation was about native plants. He included pictures of some of his best-selling wildflowers and where to plant them in the garden. He also discussed which ones are good pollinators, as well as ones with medicinal properties. Robyn brought some plants for purchase.

Member Garden Tour
A great time was had by all! It was so much fun to be ‘normal’ again, to socialize and to see some spectacular gardens. Everyone worked very hard sprucing up their gardens. It was a great incentive to ‘get 'er done’. Everyone went home with new plants from the plant exchange and what was supposed to be a light lunch turned out to be an elegant luncheon!

John Scarpucci from the North Georgia Camellia Society gave his presentation on the history of the camellias, types, as well as planting and caring for them.
