On the flip side, fungi have played a huge role in the evolution of life on Earth, and recent scientific breakthroughs reveal that fungi may provide communication paths between plants in a forest. Basic mushroom identification, common mushrooms (including common edibles), and some of the wackier Georgia mushrooms will be covered.

"Native Azaleas and Native Understory Plants"
Charles Andrews, President, Azalea Society of America

Charles Andrews will focus primarily on our native azaleas, underused plants in our gardens. There are two kinds of azaleas: evergreen and deciduous. The evergreen kinds are not native but are all derived from Asian species. Not many people know that of the deciduous azaleas, North America has the most with 17 species. Georgia has more of these deciduous ones than any other state with 12 species. Our natives come in many colors from white to pink and lavender, yellow to orange and red and many are fragrant. Some are low growing, some are tall. By choosing the right species and cultivars, one can have flowers in the garden from April into September.
